I am a musician, composer, and sound designer, currently looking to gain experience leading to employment within the videogames industry. As a musician, I am primarily a (largely self-taught) guitarist, but am also a singer, with some knowledge of the keyboard and drums under my belt. Despite my choice of instruments residing firmly within the umbrella genre of popular music, I am classcally trained in music theory, owed in no small part to my music-focused tertiary eduction. I have been composing music at an amateur level for over 10 years, and in 2007 I graduated from De Montfort University in Leicester (UK), with a 2:1 Bachelor's degree in 'Music, Technology and Innovation'. This degree program was fundamental in my development as a musician, and helped me discover my own identity as a composer. I am able to write in a variety of styles, ranging from classical to electronica, with main influences coming from popular music artists such as Radiohead, classical composers such as Erik Satie and Gustav Holst, and game music composers like Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy), Jeremy Soule (The Elder Scrolls) and Kelly Bailey (Half-Life). As a music technologist, I am experienced in the use of a variety of MIDI and audio production software. As a native user of Cakewalk SONAR, this is where the majority of my work is done, but I am also experienced in the use of Digidesign Pro Tools, Cycling '74 Max/MSP, Adobe Audition, and FLStudio/Fruity Loops. I am competent enough in a variety of different types of audio software that it doesn't take me very long at all to master a new program which I am unfamiliar with. I am experienced with common sound recording and production techniques, with knowledge of acoustics, microphone placement, effects, processors, and mixing. I am confident in the use of synthesizers, and can create sound effects from scratch using a variety of synthesis techniques. I hope you enjoy the music and sound effects available here. I plan to update the site as and when I write new material. If you like what you hear and are interested in using me for your project, you can send an e-mail to info [at] ryansnook.co.uk, or head on over to the BLOG for further contact details. I will happily consider all projects that come my way, no matter how big or small. Enjoy the show.
